Played Recently: Limbo, Lone Survivor, Magicka

Limbo

Imagine that you are a human shaped blotch of ink with two shining eyes, waking up in a backlit greyscale world. A world where you don't know the rules, and don't recognize the dangers..
This is LIMBO. To say that this is a platformer is technically correct, but it doesn't feel right. Although there is a lot of running, jumping and swinging on ropes, it's not hard, and rarely require you to be very precise. On the other hand, as you go on and meet enemies, you need to be really creative to find ways to eliminate them.
Although the control structure is unbelievably simple (4 arrows + control), you don't feel very restricted in the world.
An additional beautiful touch is the fact that the game has a physical engine. When you fall, jump in the air or get stabbed (which is happening with a worrying frequency) your body moves in a very realistic way.
Verdict: Gotta play on.

Lone Survivor

Ok, I said that I was playing rogue likes, so I don't care about the graphics, but I was apparently mistaken. I do. With this one, the graphics was the reason why I decided against playing any further than 15 minutes. That was more than enough to get a headache. Although the game is promising, and I am curious about the story, I just can't bear the low res graphics rendered on a 1680x1050 resolution. So, not playing this one any further. :(

Magicka

Luckily, this one helped me to get over the disappointment about Lone Survivor. From the graphics you wouldn't guess that it was released less than 2 years ago, but the (somewhat morbid) humour and the very ingenious magic system makes it good fun to play. My left hand - the one you use for creating spells on the fly - was aching after the hour from the strain. :D
This and the "Crash to Desktop" spell in the game makes it obvious that I will continue playing with this one.
